Construction and Cultural Enterprises

The centralized power of the governmental system under King Sho Shin instituted many construction and cultural projects at Shurijo Castle.
Starting in 1492 with the construction of the royal family temple Bodaiji located within Enkakuji Temple, the series of building projects carried out under his rule include Hojo-kyo Bridge, Enkanchi Pond, The stone gate Sunuhyan-Utaki Ishimon , Benke-Utaki Shrine. Tamaudun Royal Mausoleum, and other projects.
An important road connecting Shurijo Castle with the southern parts of the kingdom, the Madamichi road and the Madanbashi Bridge were also constructed.
A major cultural achievement in his reign was the beginning of compilation of the Omoro-soushi. The Omoro are ancient ballads and songs handed down on the Okinawa and Amami Islands. These were transcribed and edited to become the Omoro-soushi, a major literary work of the Ryukyus.
