A construction work connected to the Okinawa International Ocean Exposition that was held in Motobu Town and also a main road linking the central and southern areas of the main island with Nago City in its northern part, the Okinawa Expressway was improved in the 25.9 kilometer stretch between Nago and Ishikawa, becoming a general toll road on May 20, 1975.
