In
1958 Shuri High School became the first school to represent
Okinawa at the 40th National Senior High School Baseball
Tournament. The school lost its first game but received
a warm ovation from the whole country. Soil from the
stadium was brought back by the players but was soon
discarded in the ocean due to the Plant Quarantine Act.
This incident strongly defined the border separating
Okinawa from mainland Japan.
