On June 30, 1956, a little before lunchtime, an F-100D jet that took off from Kadena Air Base crashed into Ishikawa City's Miyamori Elementary School. In this accident 17 people, including 11 children, were killed and 121 people injured. This horrible accident was the worst ever in Japan involving U.S. military forces.
