The First Sho Dynasty was established in 1406 by Sho Hashi and lasted for 64 years through seven successions of kings.
During this dynasty a long bank connecting to the harbor in Naha with Shuri was built as well as Ryutan Pond, Buddhist temples and shrines, and the casting of the Bankoku Shinryo-no-Kane (Bridge Between Nations) Bell. All of this made Shuri the symbol of the Ryukyu Kingdom.
The tributary state relationship created by King Satto opened the way for thriving trade with the countries of East and Southeast Asia and developed as an important policy in promoting the Ryukyu Kingdom overseas.
