Planned as a bypass between the three harbors of Naha, Tomari and Aja New Port, the Naha harbor highway was partly opened after construction began in 1974 as a Japan -Naha City project. It is the longest bridge in Okinawa at 1,118 meters. For its construction, the world's largest crane ship, 3,000 meters, was used.
