On July 30,
1978 right-side road traffic that prevailed during the
time of U.S. military occupation changed to the left
as used in mainland Japan. The change, called "730,"
was due to the international mandate for "one nation,
one traffic pattern." The changeover method: At
10:00 p.m. on July 29 all road traffic was forbidden,
resuming at 6:00 a.m. the next day on the left side
of the road.
