In 1967 the 57th Akutagawa Prize was awarded to Tatsuhiro Oshiro for "Cocktail Party." His writing depicted the delusive international friendship shown by the U.S. military. The awarding of such a prestigious prize to an author residing in a land considered barren and void of literature stimulated Okinawa's literary world.
