Under U.S. administrative rule, each citizen of Okinawa earnestly wished for the opportunity to vote in a popular election and protested for the right of autonomy for years. Realizing the limits of their ruling power, the U.S. announced the establishment of a popular election. Through this election, held in November, Chobyo Yara was elected Chief Executive of the Government of the Ryukyus.
