Following
a series of problems regarding lands for military use,
the citizens of Okinawa developed an opposition movement
along with the "Four Land Protection Principles"
resolution. In June 1956 recommendations submitted by
the Price Survey Team stressed the significance of U.S.
bases, ignoring this appeal and disregarding their wishes.
Citizen disappointment soon led to a series of protests
and eventually ignited the so-called "island-wide
struggle," a major mass movement overshadowing
political differences among all.
