Rinken Teruya formed this band with vocalist Mitsuru Tamaki and others in 1977. Rinken's grandfather, Rinzan Teruya was an authority on Ryukyuan Classical music and his father Rinsuke Teruya was a traditional Ryukyuan style comic. From a young age Rinken was brought up in an environment rich in Okinawan music. Experienced in rock and jazz, Rinken has created his own distinctive style of music. Together with Shokichi Kina, the Rinken Band is one of the leaders in the Okinawan World Music scene. His album "Arigato" debuted his music on mainland Japan in 1988. Others include "Nankuru", "Gon-Gon", "Kara-hai", and "Nife".
