Called the father of modern day Okinawan folk songs. Not only a researcher who collected folk songs from each of the regions in Okinawa but a singer of note himself. Established Marufuku Records in Osaka. Known also affectionately as Chikonki Fukubaru. His pieces include "Natsukasiki Furusato", "Gunjin-bushi", and "Imin-kouta".
