Okinawan 60's style folk music started with the group Okinawa Folk Mura during the reversion of Okinawa to Japan around 1972. The group's leaders Yutaka Sadoyama and Shinya Mayonaka were the main focus of the group. Their first release was the album "Okinawa Folk Mura." The song "Duchui muni", penned by Sadoyama, elicited an overwhelming public response for its treatment of the political situation in Okinawa. In 1975 the album "Koza 75" was issued featuring artists such as Ryoickichi Chinen and Shuji Kurokawa. It voices the theme of life in a town close to a US military base.
