The Reconstruction of Shurijo Castle , 1992
On November 3, 1992 Shurijo Castle Park was opened. The dignified Shurijo Castle, with the Seiden (main hall) at its center, arose again from the ashes of its ruin during the battles in Shuri during WWII and was a delight for the prefecture's citizens. In 1984 the concept for the reconstruction of Shurijo Castle with the Seiden (main hall) as the center of a national park was begun. In 1986 the project was started and reconstruction began in July of 1989. Shurijo Castle Park was a project put together by the government of Japan, city management and public corporations, the prefectural government, and the Board of Education. However, the Ocean Expo Commemorative Park Foundation carries out unified management.
