Chaotic Development and Sudden Increases in Land Prices
In this period rapid development and increasing cost of land occurred. In 1990, according to the Prefectural land survey, the average price for land in Okinawa Prefecture for one square meter was 46,300 yen for residential land and 260,000 yen for industrial land. Particularly, in the case of residential property, there was a sharp increase in land prices. In Onna-son village there was a 15.9% increase, and the Maeda area of the same village registered at the top with a 22.5% increase. The rise can be attributed to the effects of resort related development. This is a photograph of a part of Onna-son with all its resort hotels mushrooming up.
