Traffic Changeover, 1978
The traffic changeover was held on July 30, 1978. For the thirty years since the end of the war, the traffic direction was "Right for cars, Left for people," but on July 30, 1978, at 6:00 in the morning, it changed to fit the standard of the rest of Japan, "Left for cars, Right for people." This was called the last large postwar project and at most of the intersections throughout the island, people gathered to watch the traffic signals and hear the bells chime.
