| The Aquapolis, marine city of the future, was built as the symbol for the Ocean Exposition. In July 1975, after three years and 320 billion yen spent on construction, the Okinawa Ocean Expo opened its doors. The flowery opening ceremony also the occasion for demonstrations by students and labor groups opposing the project.
