On April 28 1952 the San Francisco Peace Treaty was signed and with it the separation of Okinawa from Japan. The Reversion Council called it "April 28 Okinawa Day" and held rallies each year on this day demanding reversion. As part of this they held meetings on the 27th degree latitude border, between Okinawa and Yoronto Island, where they met with representatives from the mainland of Japan and hardened their resolve for reversion.
