Parade for U.S. President Eisenhower, 1960
In 1960, during his tour of Asia, President Eisenhower made a stop in Okinawa. After reading a statement upon his arrival, he took a parade under the eyes of strict combat ready guards down old Route 1 (Route 58) to visit the government. However, due to overwhelming reversion demonstrations along the route he was taking , the course was changed and he headed to Naha Airport at 1:00 in the afternoon.
