| This is the seal of the Okinawa Gunto Government, established on November 4, 1950, the organization which was the governing body for the residents of mainland Okinawa. The jurisdiction of the Okinawa Gunto was the Okinawa mainland and the surrounding islands close by. The first governor to be elected was Tatsuo Taira but the organization was abolished on April 1st 1952 with the founding of the Government of the Ryukyus. Okinawa Prefectural Museum Collection |
