Statue of Noboru Jahana
This statue of Noboru Jahana (1865-1908) was erected in his hometown, Kochinda. A pioneer of the civil rights movement in Okinawa, he struggled against the power of Governor Narahara and the old aristocratic families but failed due to their interference and oppression. On his way to Yamaguchi Prefecture to look for work, he suffered a sudden bout of mental illness at Kobe Station and died seven years later in his hometown at the age of 44.
