"Depiction of Yaeyama Manners and Customs"

Tsunenori Nishi, a native of Fukuoka, arrived in the prefecture in 1882 and assumed office in the Yaeyama civil office from 1885-1890. It is believed he obtained this painting during his years of service. The artist is unknown. This painting is a valuable resource of information on some of the customs and manners of Yaeyama in the 19th century.
