Sefa Utaki is the considered the most sacred of the Utaki (Sacred areas) in Okinawa. It was the location of the the inauguration ceremony for the kingdom's high priestess, the Kikoe Ogimi. The supreme priestess had a powerful position in the ancient Ryukyu Kingdom, Haneji Choshu reduced the ranking of the Kikoe Ogimi and weakened her influence as part of his reform policies. Designated a National Historic site and designated a place of scenic beauty by Okinawa Prefecture.
