Nakasone-Tuimiya was a powerful ruler on Miyako during the 15th to the beginning of the 16th centuries. The style of the tomb is a combination of the Miyako Island Miyaaka (giant tomb) and the styles used on the mainland of Okinawa. The front of the tomb is stepped and there are stone columns placed on the top portion. As an example of the exchange of stone masonry technology between Miyako-jima Island and the mainland of Okinawa it is an important historical monument. Photograph: Hiroaki Oshiro |
