This residence is located in the Sonai Village of Iriomote Island and is the oldest wooden private residence with a thatched roof in Okinawa. No nails or metal fittings were used in its construction and joints were tightened by using wooden wedges. The post and beam construction is of Inuki wood (podocarp), with the interior done in Sendan (chinaberry), Tsukugi, Tarugi mangrove, Hirugi mangrove, and other materials from Iriomote.
In 1994 it was designated a Prefectural Cultural Property. .
