Yamashita-cho Daiichi Cave
Yamashita-cho Daiichi Cave is a semi-cave ruin located in Yamashita-cho, Naha City. Because it had been used as a grave, the area escaped demolition and quarrying after WWII. Excavation in the cave uncovered the remains of an eight year-old girl from the diluvial epoch who was subsequently named the Yamashita Dojin. Her remains are precious for the study of ancient Paleolithic humans within East Asia. In 1969 it was designated a Cultural Property by Okinawa Prefecture.
