This Gusuku (castle) was constructed northwest of old Agena village on a pinnacle of Ryukyuan limestone situated on the side of Tengan-gawa River in the central Chubu area of Okinawa Island. The date of construction is unknown. According to traditional accounts, the castle was built by one of the children of the lord of Ihagusuku Castle who ruled over the area. In 1972 it was designated a National Historic Site by Japan. . .
