Oyama Shell Mound
This shell mound stretches north to south along the hills of Ryukyuan limestone in Oyama. Excavations have yielded deep bowl-shaped vessels of a type designated Oyama-shiki earthenware. The presence of the vessels was used to determine the era in which the shell mound was from. In 1972 it was designated a National Historic Site by Japan.
