@The top is white litharge-painted, and the reverse is cinnabar-lacquered. The base of the tray has a double-bordered landscape scene in white litharge, with a pavilion and figures. The ground, tree trunks, birds and outlines are in hakue gold leaf. The side panels have hakue bamboo and plum designs, with whirls in the corners. In the distance there is a post-like object, with a bird standing on top. The motif may have some particular meaning, but this is unclear at present. Square trays were used for such purposes as displaying tea-caddies, or holding wine cups at parties.
