| After leaving the Haebaru Field Hospital, the Himeyuri Student Corps came here to the First Surgical Cave. Shown here is one of caves comprising the unit. It is located right outside on the road near the popular sightseeing spot, Himeyuri-no-To War Memorial. Toward the end of the Battle of Okinawa the cave received a direct hit by U.S. forces and was destroyed. Many of the students and nurses were perished. Photograph by Bughouse Ltd. |
